We are recruiting to fill the position of:
Job Title: Safety and Security Intern
Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Position Summary
- The purpose of this role is to learn while providing support in the safety and security unit.
- Safety and Security Unit promotes and implements security & safety policies, procedures and guidelines Coordinate and also conduct safety audits.
- Perform risk assessments of locations in accordance with established procedures and inspect office locations for the efficient and smooth functioning and implementation of the Search for Common Ground programs.
Reporting Line:
- The intern will be managed and supervised by the Safety and Security Manager (SS Manager).
Duration of Internship:
- The internship shall be for the duration of Six months.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Working with the SS Manager, ensure Search facilities are safe and secure, fences and gates are strong enough and maintained to prevent unauthorized entries by inspecting office compound, equipment, access and entry points.
- Ensure Security guards are well aware of their responsibilities and present 24/7 on duty and monitor on regular basis to ensure that security guards have access to basic security equipment emergency contact list.
- Monitor on regular bases and ensure offices and GHs are well equipped with fire extinguishers, first aid kits and emergency contact lists.
- Notify the SS Manager of the need to acquire security clearance and documentation from relevant authorities when needed.
- Ensure staff movement that requires tracking is adequately tracked and communicate any concerns to the supervisor.
- Supporting the SS Manager, ensuring all vehicles are equipped with working seatbelts, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, emergency contact numbers and other safety equipment.
- Ensure that communication tools and equipment are functioning well and in working condition.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Security Studies or any other relevant Degree.
- Proficiency at using Microsoft office software: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. is required.
- Good communication and reporting skills
- Analytical skills – ability to analyze data from different perspectives
- Interpersonal, Coordination and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow up on tasks to completion is required.
- Experience of working in a conflict environment is a plus.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and often demanding environment.
- Flexibility in terms of office hours.
- Written and spoken fluency in English is required.
- Understands Hausa, Kanuri and Fulfude languages is a plus factor.

Intern Allowance
- The intern will be eligible for a daily stipend of NGN 2,500 for each working day. Payment will be made at the end of the month for the days worked.
