Job Title: Head, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)

Reports To: Managing Director / Chief Execueve Officer

Job Summary

  • To coordinate HSE management across client’s operating area; managing own workload and engaging all stakeholders to a range of levels to ensure all statutory end non-statutory HSE activities ore carried out and corrective actions identified in risk assessments are Implemented
  • To implement and sustain HSE policies and practices across client’s workplace that create safe working environment for all who enter or conduct work on / in any of the client’s premises / facilities / offices.
  • To embed a level of safety consciousness within workplace that results in endemic health & safety culture.
  • Engage with Top management end Department Heads / Managers to ensure that work have minimal effect on the environment
  • Ensure continued compliance of of visitors, vendors, Suppliers, and contractors to HSE internal processes, procedures, management systems and voluntary commitments to which the Client subscribes to.
  • Assist management in identifying areas where processes and procedures can be made more efficient.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identity with mega trends in HSE that may impact business sustainability.
  • Promote and raise awareness, at all levels of the organization the impact of all emerging HSE issues.
  • Drive HSE continuous improvement to supporting and implementing business strategies
  • Review and update organizational HSE guidelines in line with national legislation, including novel development in the energy sector both locally and internationally
  • Sustain the internal HSE Management Systems to ensure it remains effective within the organization and as a minimum, meets the requirements of te ISO standards 45001 and 1 4001
  • Monitor, record, evaluate and report kPls to other departments to provide insight into HSE compliance and performance evaluation
  • Facilitate meetings with top management to provide update on HSE Performance scorecard, changes in legislation and address any issues and concerns that may arise.
  • Plan and Participate in detailed incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis
  • Review incident investigation reports and ensure incident reporting align with regulatory requirements.
  • Build on internal and external network of stakeholders and develop wider cooperation / understanding amongst internal stakeholders to develop a culture of compliance
  • Prepare for and participate in HSE related audits (internal and external).
  • Design and deliver bespoke HSE mandatory training and induction package for employees and contractors.
  • Develop self and other members of the HSE department by ensuring continuing professional development (CPD)t is up to date
  • Oversee non-conformity management and ensure that action owners provide comprehensive action plan to top management within 5 working days of an issue being raised.
  • Represent the organization on HSE matters and interface with regulators and HSE Association / Bodies / NGOs / Networks
  • Plan, organize and execute HSE Corporate Responsibility programmes for the organization
  • Recommend PPE control measures and advise on the standard of PPE as applicable.

The Profile
Education:

  • B.Sc and M.Sc Degree in any of Engineering, Sciences, Occupational Health & Safety, Sustainable Development, or any other relevant Degree.

Certification(s):

  • Certification in NSE e.g., The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) certificate in
  • Occupational Health & Safety;
  • NEBOSH certificate in Environmental Management
  • NEBOSH certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management
  • Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)Certifications, ISO 45001 / 14001 / 9001 Lead Auditor Certification, etc.

Years of Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years cognate experience in a similar organization, out of which 5 years is in a senior management role.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent leadership and communication (verbal and written) shills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skill and a strong team focus
  • Experience of a corporate work environment
  • Experience of managing workload to agreed service levels
  • Professional integrity in managing confidential and sensitive information.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Broad knowledge and experience of Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental management isa must.
  • Experience in trainings and multiple stakeholders's engagement would be advantageous.

Requirement:

  • S/he must display a "can do" attitude, be innovative, dynamic, and willing to work efficiently and effectively to deliver excellent levels of service.

Others:

  • Substantive years of HSE professional membership with any professional body such as: ISPON. IOSH. WSO, IRSM. NES, WAMASON. IEMA, ISSP, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 Management Systems.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Broad knowledge of range of assurance activities, tools, techniques, principles, and their application.
