Communications Advisor
Location: FCT, Abuja (with frequent travel to the bases)

Tasks and Responsibilities
Objective 1 – Support the implementation of the Advocacy strategy for the Child Development Grant Programme (CDGP):
- Support in building systems for research, analysis and documentation that underpin evidence based advocacy and influencing at state and national levels.
- Supports public relations and collaborates with the Program Partnerships team on donor and partner communications and community relations.
- Formulate key advocacy messages and targets from lessons learned, assessments, research and evidence gained through programme implementation.
- Provide support on the design, development and roll out (deployment) of materials such as success stories, newsletters, Advocacy messages and SBCC messages for effective programme implementation
- Contribute to the development and implementation of advocacy objectives and initiatives, both short and long term, encompassing a wide range of issues particularly on Social Protection.
- Contribute to all efforts to raise/nurture CSOs and champions for the programme at the National and state level if need arise.
- Contribute on key Programme planning, coordination and reporting activities.
Objective 2 – Spearhead the communications management for the CDGP Programme:
- Coordinate strategic communications to increase engagement, visibility and voice for CDGP ensuring the use of effective channels to communicate appropriate messages to external audiences
- Provide quality oversight on the development of communication materials and ensure its compliance with Action Against Hunger’s branding guidelines across the mission
- Coordinate closely with the CDGP programme team on a regular basis on the communication management of the programme.
- Provide technical support for the Advocacy and Communication Officers of CDGP in Jigawa and Kano.
- Undertake periodic field visits to support donor-compliant communication, visibility and documentation during CDGP events.
- Undertake regular field visits to monitor the impact of the communication materials, messaging, use of tools identifying communication gaps and opportunities for wider spread and reach critical masses with appropriate information.
Objective 3 – Support communications management for the organization:
- Support the implementation of the Mission’s Communications Strategy (track progress, review actions, and identify new opportunities) to support advocacy, engagement and increase awareness.
- Advise on and manage risks related to the organization’s communication and media work.
- Support to build and maintain strategic media relations in order to boost Action Against Hunger’s image including writing press statements, supporting media coverage of programmes and engagement during emergencies and critical incidents
- Support to build capacity of advocacy and communications staff as well as other project management staff as necessary.
- Support the management of the quality, efficiency and update of the organization’s Social Media Channels and other online platforms.
- Support all project managers, in collaboration with the compliance team, on donor-compliant communication, visibility, documentation, and dissemination strategies within respective projects.
- Provide support to the design, development, planning, implementation and reporting of the National Advocacy and Communications strategy.
Objective 4 – Content creation and monitoring of knowledge management:
- Produce and edit high quality short videos and photos to support CDGP advocacy and campaign initiatives.
- Oversee and produce content to meet communications objectives whilst coordinating closely with field advocacy and communications teams and project staff.
- Manage the production of high quality communication products such as project sheets, infographics, factsheets, e-newsletter, brochures, posters etc. to be circulated internally and externally.
- Improve the CDGP programme storytelling and regularly contribute stories to Action Against Hunger global websites.
- Proactively work with knowledge management teams to produce compelling human-interest stories and reports from their projects focusing on the organizations work that support advocacy and communications.
- Work closely with advocacy and communications team to produce content for donor & public engagement, media relations and emergency communications.
- Undertake regular field visits to monitor the impact of the communication materials, messaging, use of tools identifying communication gaps and opportunities for wider spread and reach critical masses with appropriate information.
Internal & External Relationship
Internal:
- Country Director: Technical competence in producing content for various media formats – print, audio, video, web etc.
- Advocacy Manager: Exchange of information, collaboration, coordination on early recovery, policy and development agenda
- Technical Coordinators: Exchange of information and collaboration on program issues
- State level Advocacy and Communications teams: Work very closely to provide information, specifically around challenges and concerns within the context, stakeholder engagement, program delivery and humanitarian response.
External:
- Governmental and non-governmental partners: Exchange of information, coordination, training, supervision, influence on choice of technical options
- International and Local Aid Organizations: Exchange of information
- Donor representatives: hosting field visits: Exchange of information
- Cluster and other coordination forums
Position Requirements
Qualifications:
- Degree in Communications & Journalism, Media Studies, Communications Strategy, Development Communication or relevant discipline. A Master’s degree would be an added advantage.
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
- At least three (3) years relevant work experience.
- Technical competence in producing content for various media formats – print, audio, video, web etc.;
- Proficient computer skills required, especially the ability to work comfortably in Adobe InDesign CS, Adobe Photoshop, Publisher, PPT, and expert in other communications and MS office package, layout and design software, applications;
- Advocates and promotes AAH vision, mission, and strategic goals;
- Excellent team player with strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
- Extremely detail oriented and comfortable developing and / or working with project plans / timelines;
- Flexible and able to work effectively under pressure and deadlines;
- Experience in designing and leading media campaign or communication strategies;
- Previous experience in the humanitarian or development context;
- Commitment to AAH mission, values and policy;
- Familiar with Northeast Nigeria context;
- Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.
Preferred:
- Previous or current experience in INGO
Minimum Basic Salary
NGN 424,310 per Month
