Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international, private, non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian organization. Our organization offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. We have been working in Nigeria since February 1996. A Memorandum of Understanding between Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Federal Government of Nigeria facilitates this. We are at present co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, State and Local Government departments of health on various health projects.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Nursing Activity Manager - Outreach

Main objective and responsibility of the position
- The NAM Outreach will be responsible for the management of the OPD activities, alongside a national nursing team supervisor, and including Nurses and Clinical Assistants and Community Health Educator.
- The NAM OUTREACH will define, organize, implement and follow-up all care and nursing related OPD activities in the project, ensuring the daily management of human resources as well as the implementation of the MSF nursing protocols, in order to warrant efficiency , quality and continuity of prescribed care.
Description of the Responsibilities / Activities
Field Focus:
- Support and run OPD activities focusing on Morbidities (Malaria, ATFC, ARTI, Measles, Diarrhea) leading to severe complication and reduce number of admissions at late stage in the hospital. The NAM will be responsible for the management of IDP Camp OPD clinic, ATFC program in PHC located in Anka Town, Jangebe, Nasarawa and Bagega and community seasonal malaria response in 12 different villages/Wards.
- Ensure thorough implementation of MSF protocols such as for ATFC, malaria, ARTI, measles, infection prevention and control, HIV and TB testing amongst others. Provide technical support when needed, to ensure the quality of the nursing care, confidentiality and information traceability, patient surveillance, as well as ensuring that therapeutic and sterilization rules are used correctly by the health care personnel. Work closely with the Medical Doctor in charge of medical consultations in the IDP camp and together coordinate referrals to the Hospital.
- Close collaboration with MoH Vaccinator to ensure EPI activities are well implemented in the IDP and ATFC clinics.
- Follow up closely and strictly, COVID-19 triage IPC related measures, ensure screening, and triage protocols are well implemented.
- Ensure effective meetings with the village chiefs and the SSP and ATFC staff as required under the direction of MTL.
- Ensure quality care, an adequate explanation of the use of drugs and inclusive health education in all clinics.
Human Resources:
- Under MTL leadership carryout training/induction of newly recruited staff, staff evaluation, potential detection, development and communication.
- Support, coach and supervise the nursing supervisor so as to enable them to function with minimal supervision/support. This requires mentoring and supporting them in their tasks including planning and supervision and associated HR and administrative processes (training/induction, staff evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under their responsibility ensuring both the required sizing and the amount of knowledge required and improve capabilities. May be responsible for scheduling duty rosters, shifts and on call of nursing staff.
- Training/Coaching of the nursing team so as to ensure quality of care in the inpatient wards and planned as a team approach with activities of ATFC, infection prevention and control. Provide training and supervision of MSF and MOH staff involved in activities.
- In collaboration with MOH staff in villages/Wards, plan and implement curative awareness-raising activities of Malaria and ATFC program.
- To train, coach and supervise national staff CHEWs in medical procedures and MSF protocols, ensuring that MSF protocols and medical guidelines are respected and followed.
- To plan and execute required trainings for Medical staff in collaboration with medical team leader.
Teamwork:
- Ensure a holistic approach to the treatment of malnutrition through close collaboration with the NAM ITFC
- Ensure flexibility in assigned tasks. Must be willing to accept that assigned tasks may change or be added based on the changing project needs and strategy
- In collaboration with MTL, support the team in the management of measles, meningitis and other outbreaks when necessary.
Data Reporting:
- Report to the line manager on any relevant information linked to nursing activities and participates in monthly reports and definition of annual planning, budget for the project
- Ensure patient numbers treated for malnutrition during the lead clinic are collected and submitted to the NTS of ATFC to add in database.
- Ensure the ATFC and Malaria data are properly analysed during the meeting with MoH staff and updated by the NTS and Malaria focal point in the HIS weekly
- Report to the line manager on any relevant information linked to nursing activities and participates in monthly reports and definition of annual planning, budget for the project
- Responsible for the Monthly Medical Report (write and timely submit to MTL) of OR activities (check data, compile report and summarize narratives)
Drug / medical supply management:
- Manage drug consumption and prepare ordering according the project supply system, drug management include inventories, follow up of expiries, rational use of medical item, and report on damage
- Ensure accurate PPN and other medical item consumption, identify discrepancies and justify them
Requirements (Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge)
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Education:
- Essential - Nursing diploma for general or specialized health services
- Desired - Bachelor in Science of Nursing
- Specialization or training in tropical medicine would be an asset.
Experience:
- Essential - A minimum of 2 years work experience in nursing activities related to treatment of malaria, nutrition, and/or working with displaced individuals
- Essential - Minimum one-year nurse management experience
- Desirable - Working experience in MSF or other NGO's
Languages:
- Fluent in English (verbal/ written) and knowledge of Hausa desirable
Knowledge:
- Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet);
