Street Child is a UK charity, established in 2008, that aims to create educational opportunity for some of the world's most vulnerable children Street Child began its work in Sierra Leone in 2008 working with a small number of street children, eight years later we have helped to transform the lives of more than 50,000 children across Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nepal. In 2017 we launched our first project in Nigeria helping children impacted by conflict in the North East to access education.

Position Requirements

Operational/Context Role

Street Child is looking for a dedicated Project Officer for our Girls Education Project in Adamawa State, North East Nigeria. The project is an 18-month GiZ-funded project. The goal is to address these problems, Street Child will leverage our experience implementing integrated Education in Emergencies and Child Protection in Emergencies programmes to tackle the complex, interlinked barriers to learning for different children. Building on existing relationships with government and NGO stakeholders to ensure coordination and complementarity will form the basis for targeted support to meet the educational needs of vulnerable and at-risk girls in Adamawa. For example, coordination with existing GIZ livelihoods and entrepreneurship programming for older learners who wish to receive vocational training will build a more holistic, accountable and needs-based intervention. 

The ideal candidate would have experience in implementing projects in Education, especially with a focus on Girls Education and Child Protection issues. Good communication and team-working skills are essential, and the candidate must also be able to work independently. Analytical thinking, problem-solving and flexibility are expected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Programme Delivery
  • Support the Team Lead and Programme Managers to deliver timely planned activities
  • Monitor day-to-day activities to ensure best practice is adhered to in project implementation
  • Work closely with implementing partners to ensure quality implementation and accurate reporting
  • Support the Team Lead to identify and report problems with project implementation as they arise

Reporting

  • Support the Team Lead in keeping the Programme Manager informed on activity progress, including through regular reports

Partner Liaison  

  • Support the Team Lead in identifying partner training/capacity building needs and conducting capacity building trainings
  • Work closely with implementing partners to prepare and submit reports on approved frequency

Other Requirements

Experience:

  • Experience (at least 3 year) of working in Nigeria on Education
  • Experience of working in Adamawa State (an advantage, but not a requirement)
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with marginalized communities

Language:

  • Fluency in English and excellent writing skills.

Technical skills

  • Strong analytical, reporting, strategic thinking and planning skills.
  • Strong monitoring and evaluation skills/experience
  • Knowledge of project cycle management.

Terms and Conditions:

Contract is for 18 months, with an initial probationary period of 3 months. The salary will be proportioned to the candidate experience and balanced to the Street Child salary scale.
