Job Title: Company Secretary / Chief Legal Adviser
Providing general advisory services to all departments in the Group Administration and Management of the Company Secretariat, Litigation and Dispute Resolution matters/cases/issues, Serve as an advisor to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors on all matters relating to company Jaw and corporate governance.
Provide accurate and timely advice on all legal and regulatory matters of the institution and provide support in legal and compliance-related matters.
Coordinate the Company’s representatIon in legal actions and ensure effective and suitable resolution/settlement of the case
Litigation monitoring, tracking, and reporting
Recommend Strategic Litigation and Opinion to the Board ‘Management on way forward to Dispute Resolution Practices and Procedures.
Engage and lead experienced and competent External Solicitor to represent the Company in disputes/conflict and at all times ensure that Company’s case(s) and legal position in every dispute resolution is adequately represented. Review/Monitor Litigation (or ADR method) by or against the Company and manage the Company’s legal/litigation exposure.
Provision of advisory services on a need basis.
Writing letters and opinions within 24 48 hours and on a need basis.
All departments within the Group.
Clients, Service Providers, External Solicitors. Contractors, etc.
Academic / Professional Qualifications
Minimum of Second Class Honours, Upper Division (2.1) in LL.B Must have been called to the Nigerian Bar
Postgraduate qualification including LL.M is required; other post-graduate qualifications will be an added advantage.
Experience / Requirements:
Minimum of 15 years experience in company secretarial/legal (litigation) practice and general legal advisory services.
Skills / Competency Required:
Hands-on experience in drafting. vetting and review of Court processes and strong litigation management
Formulation of effective litigation strategy
Wide knowledge of general litigation and dispute resolution processes and practices
Good working knowledge of MS office. Excel & PowerPoint.
Excellent communication skills
High level interpersonal and negotiation skills
A quick assessment of priorities.
